What are your hours?

We do not have open hours at this point, because we do not have sufficient supply to allow us to do that. We do not want anyone to waste their time, as we greatly respect people’s schedules. Please call for an appointment if you wish to visit the farm.

Can I just pick up what I want when I want it (like a grocery store)?

Before I answer, please understand that we know life is filled with transitions. If you are visiting our website, you are undoubtedly familiar with transitions in your diet. This transition may have already lead you to understand that your food is directly connected with the grower. Our hope is that you will consider the well-being of the persons who grow your food, just as you want us to consider your well-being when we grow it for you!

So, with that in mind, consider what life is like on a farm. We are always hustling from one of our projects to the next, and dealing with unexpected problems and exciting challenges that come with farm life.

If we were to have open hours, it would require interruption of the day to help customers. Instead, we require pre-set appointments rather than stopping by, which helps us get our work done, and helps you make sure you are not wasting a trip.

We are here at the farm the vast majority of the time Monday through Saturday, so you should be able to find a time convenient for you.

Philosophically, consider what our reliance on grocery stores means. Did you know that these stores have only 24 hours of product on their shelves at any given time? That means that if the supplies are interrupted for some reason (related to trucking, weather, etc.) the stores empty of their products within 24 hours.

Do you rely on the stores being there 24x7? What would happen if you could not go to the grocery store for a week? What about several weeks?

Is your diet tied to the seemingly seasonless supply of produce? It is a wonderful treat to have strawberries and tomatoes year around, but what would you do if you were restricted to what grows in your region seasonally? Are there foods you don't eat today that you would be loath to eat if that was all that was available?

I'm not advocating not using grocery stores. They are convenient, and we can get products there that we can't grow here. Some of them are wonderful, and why not have them when we can? But should we not also be prepared to live (even for a short time) without those stores and products given our heavy reliance on them? The best way to prepare for an emergency is to practice how you would respond to the emergency on an every-day basis.

For example, police officers rarely require the use of their sidearm. But when they go to the range to practice, they use that sidearm rather than whatever fancy new weapon is available at the range, because they need to practice with what will be available to them in a real emergency.

We should practice being prepared for an emergency by making a significant portion of our diet food we would only have access to in such an emergency.
